November 1st: Kemper Freeman, Jr.
By admin | November 1, 2007

If ever any man has earned the title, “Mr. Bellevue,” it is Kemper Freeman, Jr.
A third generation Eastsider who expanded Bellevue Square (originally built by his father) into what it is today; who rescued and completed the stalled Lincoln Square project; who built Bellevue Place; who has been called “Mr. Chairman” around more companies, trade associations, the occasional bank and hospital, and other weighty institutions than you can shake a pie chart at; and one of those many-digit philanthropists; Kemper is a busy man.
Why would such a man, with so many responsibilities, take on still more responsibilities to attempt to save the region from its dysfunctional politics? From serving as a legislator in Olympia in the 1970’s to his work to try to inject some common sense into the transportation debate over the past decade, he has devoted much time, talent and treasure into straightening out messes he didn’t create, when he could have been out riding his beloved Harley instead.
If you’ve noticed that you can see Bellevue from Kirkland now, come meet the man who made it so, and ask him why he cares.

November 30th: ERC Christmas Dinner & Auction
By admin | November 30, 2007

This is the Eastside Republican Club’s big event every year, where they raise about a kazillion dollars to use in the following year to support Republican and other worthy causes, and we’ll be working hard to help them get all of the guests checked in and out smoothly. It’s an excellent opportunity to meet your favorite elected and party officials, and also to get all of your Christmas shopping done in a way that benefits the right causes all at once.
Regular admission to the dinner and auction is $35, and well worth it. Our (free) volunteer spots are mostly filled, but any YR who is active in the club and interested in helping out may still be able to become an elf in Santa’s workshop; call Troy at 425.398.1668 to discuss.
When: Friday, November 30th, 5:00 PM
Where: Bellevue Red Lion,
11211 Main St., Bellevue

Just when you thought it was safe to go wish your fellow citizens an environmentally sensitive, low-calorie and politically correct winter solstice holiday, somebody had to go and get regressive about it!
December being less of a business month than others, we’ll be rolling our regular meeting and monthly social into one big, happy Christmasfest. Bring your favorite dish, and an inexpensive gift. We’ll have a gift exchange ($10 max), and maybe a few other agenda items, but mostly… it’s a Christmas party, dammit!
When: Thursday, December 6th; 7:00 PM
Where: Sarah’s, 4044 92nd Ave. SE, Mercer Island

December 18th: HH at M&S on LU
By admin | December 18, 2007
“I’d a lot rather get wet in here,” suggested Dorothy Malone to Humphrey Bogart in The Big Sleep, looking out of her bookstore at the torrential rain outside, with an eye to closing up the shop and tossing back a shot or two with her sole customer that rainy afternoon.
It is in the same spirit that we will be celebrating Seattle’s weather of late December in the best place to appreciate it: inside! Join us for our December happy hour at McCormick & Schmick’s Harborside Restaurant, as we look out at the few poor, wretched souls out in sailboats on the lake, trying to make a go of it — and be thankful that we’re not them!
When: Tuesday, December 18th, 5:30 PM until whenever
Where: McCormick & Schmick’s Harborside Restaurant
1200 Westlake Ave. N, Seattle
